The concept of space here in Australia is so different compared to the one we have in Europe!
In the continent where I usually live, cities are everywhere. Hills are covered with constructions. Italian beaches for instance are full of people in the summer, so full that sometimes it is not worth to be there. Here, on the beaches, there is space for everyone! The sky, the coastline, the roads, everything looks like on a bigger scale. You can vividly perceive the fact of having less people around you.
And there the connection with nature grows stronger, deeper. And you realize that, no matter how much humans think the opposite, this planet is made of so many things – animals, plants, insects, fishes – and not just human kind.
We should embrace this truth more often, and remind ourselves that we are part of the planet like everything else, not the most important nor the most valuable part of it. We should remind ourselves with humility that the world’s resources are not there just for us to use.
