Sydney for few days

What to do for few days in Sydney

Final part of my stay in Australia! After staying for a month at Swami’s Retreat Yoga Center, I headed back to Sydney for few days where I haven’t done much apart from hanging out with my friends and the twins. We found a really nice walk in a quirky new part of town, in the area of Rhodes. Basically, we had a walk across this newly built-neighbourhood and then continued for a nice walk along the river and through a mangrove park, with a shipwreck look-out. Before starting the walk, we had an amazing breakfast at a place which is within this awesome complex called The Connection where it sounded like they have the space to host events, a digital library and much more. The name of the place was Bare Witness, a spacious place where they serve amazing healthy breakfast and lunch.

Other great place I went to  – by myself because my friend kept on promising of bringing me there but never did –  was this ‘dessert restaurant’ in Ryde called KOI. It is right on the street, so not a very nice location but the desserts they have!!!!! Oh my god, so sophisticated. A pleasure for the eyes and for the mouth. Also, they have plenty of options with pistachio, which I really really love.

And last but not least, I visited the youngster parts of Sydney, namely New Town and Geble. New Town is sort of a street full of shops, restaurants, fast-foods and bars. Pretty much what we would expect to find in a big city in Europe. Here is also the place to hang out at night and as far as I understand it is the neighbourhood to be these days in Sydney. I obviously find a yoga event to join and spend the night chanting Hare Krishna and talking about the purpose of life.

Geble is more alternative, smaller and is famous for its second-hand market that every Saturday attracts all the backpackers of the city as well as locals. You can get very really cheap nice clothes here and you can have lunch – deciding between many many options – for around 15-20 AUS. Here it is also a nice place to just chill in a small cafe’ and enjoy the afternoon. I found a great one, attached to a bookshop (Sappho Books), where I spent most of my afternoon reading books of the yoga session (did’t look for it, it was right in front of the place where I sat in the first place). The place also hosts poetry and music nights, so it sounded like a nice place to hang around for people like me that loves music and books!

Between Geble and New Town, you have the campus of the University of Sydney, which main building is in a nice Gothic English style like most of universities in England.

What not to miss in Sydney

What I really missed is the famous Bondi Beach, but to be honest it was literally on the other side of the city from where I live and  -considered that I hated Manly – I don’t think it would any different from what I expect.

Anyhow, not mentioned in this article but a must: Opera House and Circular Quay, Botanical Garden and Contemporary Art Museum!
